24/7 Registered Nurse Hotline

When you have a health concern, wouldn’t it be great to just pick up the phone and talk to a nurse? With FONEMED, you can do just that!

How to Use This Service:

If you have an urgent (but non-emergency) medical situation and need professional advice, call FONEMED’s Nurse Assistance Line at the toll-free number listed on your membership card or in the “HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM” section of your UCA booklet. Make sure to identify yourself as a UCA member and provide your group and membership number. This service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. A Registered Nurse will talk with you about your symptoms and recommend an appropriate course of action, using the same guidelines thousands of doctors rely on for handling their after-hours calls.

Answers to specific questions may lead to:

  • Guidance about self-treatment at home
  • Immediate or scheduled visits to your physician’s office
  • Emergency treatment

FONEMED handles after-hours medical calls for hospitals and physicians throughout the world, and you now have access to that same medical guidance. For every nurse advice call, FONEMED uses trusted medical information that has been relied upon by over 10 million people over the last decade. The foremost professionals of the health field wrote, reviewed, and endorsed the guidelines.

Dr. David Thompson developed the adult algorithms. They reflect his experience as a leader in the field of emergency medicine, with more than 16 years of clinical experience and a long list of written publications.

Dr. Barton Schmitt of Denver Children’s Hospital created the pediatric algorithms. Dr. Schmitt wrote the widely read book 'Your Child’s Health', and is well established as an international authority on pediatric medicine.
